HOW TO ACCESS ONLINE UNITS

Many units at UNE now have a component to be studied online, that is, by computer access

to UNE via the World Wide Web. UNE uses a program called WebCT to enable you to communicate

readily with your lecturers and fellow students.

With online learning you can study and hold discussions (real time or delayed) whenever and wherever you choose.

You can get access to a wide variety of resources and will be able to learn in a more interactive and collaborative way.

This eases the sense of studying alone, and faster feedback is a real advantage.

If you do not have a computer at home, you can access the Web in a variety of locations including libraries, schools,

Internet cafes and other university campuses. More information about computer requirements and Internet access

is included in the Help Book and Orientation Guide.

Access to online units:

To access online units, students must have a registered UNE username and password.

What is a UNE username and password?

All enrolled students of UNE have been given a username for computer access. If you want to use the

World Wide Web, email through UNE, access your online units or the Library's resources, you will need a UNE account.

You need to register to receive your username.

How do I register for a UNE username and password?

There are two ways to register.

1.       Register online (preferred method).

Go to the online registration page from the UNE Online home page

Click on "Get Access".

http://online.une.edu.au

You will need your enrolment details handy.

2.       Call at the IT Service Desk on Level 1 of the ITS Building (you will need your enrolment details handy),

or phone (02) 6773 5000. If you register by phone your username and password will be faxed or emailed to you.

Passwords are not given out over the phone.

If you have any problems with registration phone the IT Service Desk
(02) 6773 5000 or email helpdesk@metz.une.edu.au.

Once you have completed registration, access will be available by midday the next working day.

I've registered. What now?

Your online unit will become available on the first day of teaching.

Access your online unit/s from the UNE Online home page:

http://online.une.edu.au

·  Click on my units in the centre of the page.

·  Enter your UNE username and password when prompted.

Setting a bookmark (favourites) in your browser at this stage will enable you to return here easily.

When you have entered your UNE username and password, a personalised page will open.

It will list all the units you are currently studying and identify those that are online.

Enter each online unit by clicking ONCE on its title.

I already have a current UNE username and password:

If you have a current UNE username and password then you can go straight to your online unit.

Access your online unit/s from the UNE Online home page. Follow the steps above.

Your online unit will become available on the first day of teaching. If you are experiencing any difficulties at all,

it is important to sort them out early. Please do not hesitate to contact the IT Service Desk for technical problems

or for password and username questions. Contact your unit coordinator for content-related questions.

More help is available in the "Student help" link and through the "HELP" link at the top of your unit’s web page.
